One of the great things about owning this business, is that I get to do what I truly love and enjoy, making candles and soaps by hand. I realized early on that crafting candles and soaps can really be fun! From deciding what essential oils to use to the design of each product, I just love the creative process involved in making each bar of soap. If you like to know the ingredients that go into the products that you use in your personal hygiene regimen, why not consider making your own soap?
There are so many things to consider when deciding to make your own soap: what type of soap do you want to make? If you are making real soap, then you either need to buy saponified starter products, or you need to have your own lye to add to the oils. Whatever you decide, remember that soap making is a science, so accurate measuring is important to ensure a quality product. If you are using lye, there are saponification charts available that let you know exactly how much lye to use, depending on the oils/butters that you use as ingredients. Always be safe when using lye. I always wear my PPE when making soap!
Most of all, have fun with making your own soap! When it comes to the design and look of your soap, the sky is the limit. You can be as creative as you want to be with the design. After all, that is one of the great benefits of artisan soap making, you get to create exactly what you want. Have fun!
